When Ryan returned home, he bought his first camera, a Canon AE-1 SLR with an 18-55 lens. He later discovered the world of digital photography and sold the AE-1 to purchase a Nikon Coolpix L1, where he learned alot about the digital aspects and what benefits it can offer to the user.

Pushing the limits with the L1, he has created some of his best works with the L1 by capturing the subject by means of using the macro setting on the camera. Fustrated by the somewhat-focused images, he bought a cheap tripod and spent 20-30 hours a week perfecting this new hobby.

Towards the end of this year, Ryan received a special invite from a local friend who worked for the National Parks Service and gained special access inside the Alcatraz Island prison facility in San Francisco, which included areas off limits to the general public. He took advantage of this invite, which in return led him through many historical buildings, rooms, and other areas on the island that only the park administration had access to. That day, Ryan walked away with an incredible experience, many irreplaceable photos, and an obsession to learn more about the world of photography.
